Of course I loved this. I think most of us today, the casual reader, think of Shakespeare as a playwright, and then, if we're in the know, as a poet, but I wonder what he thought of himself?

Did he think of himself as an Artist or did he think of himself as a businessman?

If the latter, in some ways, today we wouldn't hold him in such high esteem.

Did he have any idea that 400 years after he died that he would be considered the greatest English writer, poet, dramatist, artist ever?

Also, I find it somewhat reassuring, normal, that the greatest English writer, poet of all time had regular, normal family marital problems.

Thank you, Mike. He loved doing what he was doing, and many things indicate he wanted to show that he was as talented as the university wits.

Really enjoy reading about Shakespeare, especially after reading Hamnet. Looking forward to your next piece, part 2
